Our Story
Founded by Brian Kraus, CFP®, in 2008, Kraus Capital began with a simple frustration: the people who need coordinated retirement advice the most are the ones the industry serves the worst. We set out to build a different kind of firm.
Why we exist
Most people arrive at retirement with their finances in pieces. A 401(k) from one employer, an IRA from another, a brokerage account, an insurance policy bought years ago, a will written and forgotten. Each piece was sold or set up by someone different, and no one is responsible for how they work together. The gaps between those pieces, in taxes, in income, in protection, are where retirement security quietly leaks away.
Brian founded Kraus Capital to close those gaps. Drawing on more than 27 years of experience guiding hundreds of families into retirement, he chose to build an independent, fee-based fiduciary firm with every plan organized around a single coordinated framework so that nothing falls through the cracks.
What we stand for
- Fiduciary duty. Your interests come first, by law and by conviction.
- Coordination. One plan, with every piece working together.
- Tax-first thinking. Because the IRS is most retirees' largest expense.
- Written plans. Clear strategies you can actually follow, not vague advice.
- Long-term relationships. We are there as your life and the rules change.
How We work with clients
Our approach is built on coordination and candor. We starts with your full picture, leads with tax planning because that is where most retirement income is saved or lost, and builds a written plan you can actually follow. We will tell you honestly when Kraus Capital is the right fit and when it is not. And because the relationship is ongoing, we are there as markets, tax law, and your life change.
A note on where your money is held
Brian works as an independent, fee-based fiduciary, and client assets are held at Charles Schwab, an independent custodian. Kraus Capital is not affiliated with Charles Schwab and does not receive compensation from Schwab for custody. This separation means Brian manages the strategy while a large, independent institution holds and safeguards your accounts.
I didn't set out to build the biggest firm in Texas. I set out to build the right one. After 27 years, I've learned that most of the financial mistakes families make aren't from bad intentions — they're from a lack of coordination. The CPA doesn't talk to the investment manager. The estate attorney doesn't know what the retirement plan looks like. Social Security gets claimed too early because nobody ran the numbers across enough scenarios. And then the consequences show up years later, when there's very little you can do about them.
The Legacy Blueprint promise
Everything we believe is captured in six words: keep more, grow more, leave more. That promise became The Legacy Blueprint, the framework behind every plan we build. See how it works on The Legacy Blueprint.
Our offices and who we serve
We serve clients from our office in Boerne, Texas, and through virtual planning across Texas and nationally. We work best with individuals and couples ages 55 to 70 who have at least $700,000 in investable assets and want a coordinated, written plan. Client assets are held at Charles Schwab, an independent custodian.
My uncompromising promise is to take the 1,000+ hours of research I do each year and use it to benefit the families who place their trust with me and my firm. I'm in this for the long run. Most of my client relationships span a decade or more — and that's exactly how I designed this practice.
